In 2002, GySgt Reidsma was assigned to Scout Sniper Instructor School, Weapons Training Battalion, Quantico, VA.  While there, his billets included Chief Instructor, Staff NCO In Charge, and Officer In Charge.  SSIS career highlights include:

  • Develop and improve SS curriculum
  • Instructed and oversaw SS training and operations
  • Recommended and assisted in making improved modifications and acquisition of sniper rifles, optics, equipment
  • Improved modifications to training programs and sniper doctrine
  • Advocated for a Scout Sniper primary MOS, improved sniper ranges, and an updated Sniper Table of Organization and Equipment
  • Authored the Scout Sniper chapter of the Infantry Training and readiness Manual
  • Increased Sniper training ammunition allocations

GySgt Reidsma's twenty years of distinguished active duty service spanned five major deployments, beginning with the Gulf War, and including West coast based I MEF's, MEU-SOC's, as well as a deployment to Central America.  His permanent duty locations included:

  • 3rd BN/1st Marines, 1st Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, CA
  • Scout Sniper School, HQ BN, 1st marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA
  • Recruiting Station Denver, Colorado (RSS Fort Collins, CO)
  • 2nd BN/1st Marines, 1st Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, CA
  • Scout Sniper Instructor School, Weapons Training Battalion, Quantico, VA

GySgt Reidsma retired from the Marine Corps in August 2006.  He is currently working in the defense industry.
